FROM SEQUENCING SITE STELLER SEA LION GENOME MATERAIL, AND
INTERPRETATION OF THESE DATA IN PERSPECTIVE WITH PREVIOUS GENETIC
RESEARCH ON STELLER SEA LIONS. SOL WASC9-1033 DUE 051499 POC Randall
Brown (206) 526-6226/FAX (206) 526-6025 Sources sought to conduct
genome analysis to detect nuclear gene variability. Assess the utility
of nuclear primer sets by analysis of approximately 50 samples for six
microsatelite loci. Conduct genome analysis by amplifying NTDNA using
polymearse chain reaction technology and automatic sequencing to
perform approximately 16 sample runs from approximately 50 samples
supplied by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Currently,
the only known source to conduct analysis of sea lion tissue for
assessment of available genetic primers to distinguish nuclear DNA, and
for mtDNA sequence analysis, is the Texas A&M University (A&M). A&M has
developed a technique to perform PCR/autosequence analysis on Steller
sea lion tissues and identify those tissues to the island of origin.
Period of performance under this contract will be for one year, with
one option year subject to availability of funds. Any sources which
have capable of providing such analyses are invited to request
solicitation in writing by fax. This is a simplified acquisition with
an estimated value of less than $100,000. Posted 04/20/99 (W-SN322421).
