NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for support of the joint NASA ESA Cassini-Huygens mission that was launched on 10/15/97 and will arrive at Saturn in July 2004. Services include continued development, maintenance, and operaton of the Cassini Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS) which is one of the scientific instruments on the Cassini orbiter spacecraft.This is a four month extension of contract NAS5-98068. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the services from Science Systems Applications, Incorporated under authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304 (c) (1). This purchase order is to maintain support and continuity while a new contract is established through competition. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
