59 -- SOLE SOURCE: AQUILA 4X POWERED OPTICS, GENERATION 3, WITH OMNI IV TUBES DUE 060799 POC jbaldwin@natick-notes02.army.mil SOLE SOURCE: The U.S. Army Soldier and Biological Chemical Command (SBCCOM) has a requirement to experiment with Powered Optics for all types of weapons for inclusion in the joint Army/Marine Corp -- Military Operations in Urban Terrain -- Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (MOUT ACTD). Items that met the Powered Optics, MOUT ACTD Requirement No. 2 (R2) as described at the MOUT ACTD Web Site: "http//:yorktown.dc.isx.com/mout/index.html" were evaluated in small quantities during a Product Demonstration (PD) at Camp Lejeune NC in early October 1998, and were experimented within USMC Experiment #3 in January 1999. Additional quantities of candidates that were selected as a result of this experiment are being purchased for 2 Joint Experiments occurring in July and September of this year and a Culminating Demonstration (CD) that will occur in the 4th Quarter of 2000 (July through September 2000). One of the selected candidates that we are planning to purchase is 28 units of the Aquila 4X, Generation 3, with OMNI IV tube and the associated mounting brackets from Night Vision Equipment Company, Emmaus, PA.
