B -- STUDY THE BEHAVIOR OF SURROGATE SNF HYDRIDES IN ANHYDROUS AMMONIA ON A BENCH SCALE SOL DE-AF07-99ID00389 DUE 051199 POC Janet K. Surrusco, Purchasing Agent, 208-526-5477; T. Wade Hillebrant, Contracting Officer, 208-526-0547 E-MAIL: Click here to contact the purchasing agent via e-mail., surrusjk@id.doe.gov. The U.S. Department of Energy, Idaho Operations Office (DOE-ID) intends to award sole source to Global Technologies, Inc. (GTI), an Idaho-based small business, which is heading a formed consortium of businesses, to determine if the patented technology to detoxify chemical weapons could be successfully applied to efficiently dry Spent Nuclear Fuel (SNF) and remove the uranium hydride which may be present in metallic-based fuels. The price of the award is $94,728. This consortium of businesses includes Commodore, who owns the patent for the solvated electron technology to be studied and for the solvated electron system apparatus to be used. The study will examine the behavior of surrogate SNF hydrides in anhydrous ammonia on a bench scale by 1) Positively identifying the products of the hydride decomposition reactions; 2) Attaining a basic understanding of the kinetic aspects of the reactions; 3) Determining the efficiency of the hydride decomposition; 4) Compiling safey-related information; 5) Validating effectiveness of dewatering (drying) surrogate SNF material. Interested persons that have the capability to provide this service are invited to submit information as to their capabilities and any other pertinent data to the address above, to be received no later than 15 days after the date of this notice. No solicitation document exists. Capabilities should be faxed to (208) 526-5548 or e-mailed to surrusjk@id.doe.gov. Telephone requests will not be honored.
