E-MAIL: Maria D. Furr, Maria.D.Furr.1@gsfc.nasa.gov. NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the Faro Arm portable 3D coordinate measuring machine. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from Direct Dimensions. Direct Dimensions Inc. is the sole authorized distributor of the Faro Arm in the United States. NASA/GSFC has specific schedule milestones to meet and this company has guaranteed delivery within the required time frame, provides 24 hour response service and technical support. Direct Dimensions Inc. also can meet the transportation requirements to Switzerland and California. The faro arm furnished by Direct Dimensions can be rapidly disassembled and packed in a suitcase for shipping as passenger luggage. Therefore the cost of transporting the system will be minimized. The Gold-Series Faro Arm is the only system in this price range that has the required reach and accuracy. The desired reach is up to 18 reference balls located around the HESSI instrument and spacecraft. The Faro Arm is the only product with an 8-foot reach and additional rotation axis, giving it a seventh degree of freedom. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 15 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Oral communications are acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
