contact the POC, valentij@tacom.army.mil. The US Army TACOM/Petroleum
and Water Business Group is conducting a market survey of information
pertaining to commercially available distillation and associated
equipment for desalinating and purifying sea and fresh water for
military potable water. Said equipment should handle all sea and fresh
water sources with wide ranges of salt and solids loadings. Total
package solutions and individual enabling component technologies are
sought. Components include ruggedized, transportable, efficient and
reliable -- heat exchangers, compressors, condensers, evaporators or
other related equipment. Emphasis on sea water challenges such as
corrosion prevention and scaling tolerance and fresh water conditions
such as tolerance for high turbidity and aggressive organic biofouling.
Cleanability and maintainability solutions are sought for such small,
mobile systems. Information might include available test data or case
studies supporting technological risk reduction. Desirable system(s)
should produce from 1 to2000 gallons per hour of product water using as
little fuel (JP-8 or diesel) as possible [e.g. preferably less than ~
0.003 gallons JP-8/gallon of product]. Desired details include size and
weight of commercially available systems or individual components [heat
exchange/compressor/fan]. Supported engineering estimates are welcome
however, please address operational and maintenance cost issues.
Companies producing or developing systems or support components that
meet any of the needs described above should forward literature,
specifications, publications or phone call to Mr. Jeffrey Valentino
[details below]. The government shall not incur any cost for this
information and will retain any information submitted. ALL proprietary
data will receive appropriate protection. A unit or related component
technologies may be procured or leased for government testing and
evaluation. Keywords: biofouling, distillation, desalination,
desalinization, evaporator, condensor, heat exchangers, purification,
sea water, fresh water, high efficiency, light-weight, diesel, vacuum
technology, vapor-compression, JP-8, combustion. Point of Contact: USA
