The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) announce a joint program to develop and field the Light Strike Vehicle (LSV). The objective of this program will be to design, fabricate, test, evaluate and field the LSV platform. This weapons platform will combine the system capabilities of Tactical-High Mobility (all terrain mobility greater than the HMMWV), internal transport via MV-22 and CV-22 and larger aircraft, and firepower through employment of weapons up to heavy machine guns (M-240/M-2/Mk-19). The program will commence in Fiscal Year 2000 with a competitive Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase that will deliver four platforms plus an Automotive Test Rig for testing and maturation purposes. Production of 373 vehicles is planned to take place during Fiscal Years 2004 and 2005. This will be a program of six years duration, procured via open competition and conventional contracting methods. A BRIEFING TO INDUSTRY will be held on 4 June 1999 at Quantico Marine Corps Base, Marine Corps Research Center, Quantico, Virginia to discuss all aspects of the program.
