E-MAIL: Eric W. Lewis, eric.w.lewis1@jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Offer (RFO) for the X-38 Radar Altimeters. The radar altimeter system is the X-38 primary source of accurate altitude information to aid the vehicle flare maneuver. The radar altimeter system will be used from 5000 ft to landing. The altimeter system design has 2 strings. The antennas will be located to cover the bottom quadrant of the vehicle. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. The SIC Code and Size Standard are 3829 and 500, respectively. The DPAS Rating for this procurement is DO-C9. The provisions and clauses in the RFO and model contract are those in effect through FAC 97-11. All qualified responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. The anticipated release date of the RFO is on or about June 1, 1999 with an anticipated offer due date of on or about July 15, 1999. The anticipated contract award date will be on or about October 1, 1999. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See Internet Note "B".
