The Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport, has a requirement for a renewal maintenance contract for computer hardware and software maintenance to Silicon Graphics, Inc. for a period of 1999 May 01 through 1999 Sep 30. This is a renewal support maintenance contract for Department Technology Development Programs to perform design, structural and acoustical analysis of existing and prototype weapon systems and undersea vehicles. SGI workstations are the main computer hardware utilized for graphic intensive applications. It provides the capability for the visualization of high level simulations of analytical models, as well as video generation and processing in various formats. The Networker software allows for the automated backup and retrieval of files from a 70 Gigabyte Digital Linear Tape system. These applications involve substantial hardware and software development and utilization at both the applications and systems levels in an extremely complex engineering environment. The Government intends to award a sole source purchase order to Silicon Graphics, Inc. SGI is the only vendor that can provide the desired services because they developed this proprietary hardware and software and maintain a permanent support staff that is continuously upgrading their expertise. SGI provides software revisions that improve system capabilities and they also provide when necessary patches to correct bugs in the existing software. SGI provides comprehensive hardware maintenance, which includes installation, On-Site Assistance, Parts exchange, Telephone Technical Assistance and On-Line troubleshooting tools. SGI is the only company that has the existing technical expertise to provide comprehensive maintenance service. This contract ill be placed as a Firm Fixed Price Contract in accordance with FAR art 12 for commercial services. Our department no longer issues solicitations or amendments in paper form.
