Service plans to support up to 14 National Service Fellowships
beginning in September of 1999 and ending in June 2000. The Fellowships
will be in the form of a contract, made directly to individuals for up
to $25,000, with payments of $2,500 per month over a nine-month period
and an optional final completion award of $2,500. Limited funds for
direct costs associated with the Fellowship will also be available to
each Fellow. Potential Fellows must submit a proposal on a significant
issue they would address related to the Corporation's business and
programs or to the service field and specify the outcomes that will
result from their efforts. Fellowships are full-time and assignments
and will be carried out where the Corporation (or possibly State
Commissions on National and Community Service) maintains offices and
can provide space and management support. Along with producing the
outcomes specified in their proposal, Fellows will serve on a team of
Fellowship award recipientsto assess progress, consider synergies among
projects, and for purposes of individual development. Attendance at
three Fellowship events in Washington, DC (an orientation, mid-course
event, and final meeting) is mandatory. Fellowship candidates must be
citizens or permanent resident aliens of the United States. Interested
