The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has a requirement to award a contract for the preparation of library material for binding as a means of preservation. The work under this contract will be performed onsite at the National Library of Medicine. This binding preparation project requires the contractor to retrieve volumes from the NLM collection which require binding, collate the volumes and prepare instructions for the commercial binder (selected and managed under a separate contract by the Government Printing Office), check in and perform quality control on the materials returned by the commercial binder, attach bar codes, and update the existing online database developed for recording and tracking data related to binding, which indicates the binding status of volumes. The actual binding task is performed by a separate, commercial binder. The Contractor will prepare for shipment the bindery approximately 30,000 serial units, 4,000 monographs volumes and 500 special format items for boxing during each year of this contract. The contractor shall process approximately 3,500 volumes as binder's errors for return to the commercial binder. In addition the onsite contractor will pull approximately 1,000 items that require pamphlet binding and will transfer them to the Preservation and Collection management Section. NLM intends to award a one year contract with four (04) successive one year option periods. All responsible small business sources are invited to submit a proposal which will be evaluated by the Government.
