Health Service (IHS) Pharmacy Branch wished to identify companies that
can provide a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf(COTS) pharmacy computer package
that meets our needs. The IHS and/or Tribal contractors provide health
care services to American Indians and Alaska Natives nationwide.
Outpatient pharmacy services are provided in 194 locations. Inpatient
pharmacy services are provided at 40 hospitals. Facilities range in
size from 147 bed tertiary care centers to clinics with only 1-2
primary care providers. More information about IHS can be obtained from
our website at www.ihs.gov. The IHS Pharmacy Branch is interested in
obtaining a site license for a COTS pharmacy package for all IHS and
Tribal facilities. The computer package shall provide a dynamic data
interface with the IHS Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS)
data repository. The computer package shall exchange all information
using a HL-7 interface. The RPMS data repository is written in the M
(MUMPS) computer programming language and is used on both UNIX and NT
Windows based platforms. Potential contractors can use existing
software, can modify existing software to add required functionality,
or may program new software to meet our needs. The IHS Pharmacy Branch

shall complete the functionality matrix grid obtained in this package
and return in to the Sonia L. Nelson, Contract Specialist to be
considered for the requirement. The computer package should include a
single patient profile for inpatient and outpatient, drug-drug
interactions, patient package inserts, third party billing, an
