Matthews, Contract Specialist, Phone (216) 433-2766, Fax (216) 433-2480, Email Ronald.L.Matthews@grc.nasa.gov WEB: Click here for the latest information about this notice, http://nais.nasa.gov/EPS/GRC/date.html#RFQ3-122883. E-MAIL: Ronald L. Matthews, Ronald.L.Matthews@grc.nasa.gov. NASA/GRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a MICRO-RESONATOR FABRICATION USING PHOTO-ETCH TECHNIQUES OF 3 -- 1" SCALE MICRO-RESONATORS AND 6 -- 1CM SCALE MICRO-RESONATORS, QUANTITY, 1 EACH. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GRC intends to purchase the items from AEROJET TECHSYSTEMS, SACRAMENTO, CA. The Government is issuing this solicitation for the Micro-resonator assembly: Three 1" scale and Six 1cm scale micro-resonators with varying geometries to Aerojet because the platelet technology necessary to make the micro-resonator assembly into a single module is an Aerojet proprietary/patented process. The Aero platelet manufacturing approach involves photoetching thin sheets of metal which are then diffusion bonded to form integrated structures. This technique allows the accurate manufacture of very small features. The micro-resonator concept requires an air jacket (or possibly vacuum jacket) around the resonator tube for thermal isolation. The photoetching process employed by Aerojet permits these very small air jackets to be fabricated. The platelet approach is then an enabling technology for this concept. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 3 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 3 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. OMBUDSMAN STATEMENT REQUIRED] An Ombudsman has been appointed. See Internet Note "B". Posted 05/10/99 (D-SN329691). (0130)
