E-MAIL: Contracting Officer, fpeters@usgs.gov. The U.S. Geological
Survey (AUSGS) has a requirement for the lease of Vibracore System. THE
USGS ANTICIPATES AWARDING THE PURCHASE ORDER TO COASTAL CAROLINA
UNIVERSITY (CCU), this company's Vibracoring system meets the stringent
criteria required: 1) it has a large, strong vibration unit capable of
driving a lined steel core barrel through up to five meters of
hard-packed glaciofluvial sediments and moderately-indurated Cretaceous
strata; 2) it is capable of driving and recovering a 7.5 meter core
from 80 meters water depth, and is electrically rather than
hydraulically/phneumatically powered to allow it to function at this
depth; 3) it has an integrated core extraction winch that relieves the
ship of bearing the full dynamic load of core extraction. CCU
designed, built and field tested over the past 18 months, this large,
electrically-powered, integrated -extraction vibracore system. No
substitutions are allowed. This system has been the subject of
international attention as the preferred method of obtaining long
vibracores in hard substrates and/or deep water. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS
FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY; no formal RFQ will be available.
