Officer Services -- The Department of Veterans Affairs, Philadelphia VA
Medical Center, has a requirement for a Locum Tenens Health Physicist
who meets NRC requirements for an interim Radiation Safety Officer
(RSO). Basic requirements include Bachelor's Degree in natural science
or engineering and at least 30 semester hours in health physics,
engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology,
mathematics, and/or calculus. As the medical center Health Physicist,
the contractor is responsible for eliminating radiation hazards, such
as, controlling contamination (gas, liquid, solid). The contractor is
responsible for investigation accidents and decontaiminating personnel,
equipment, and structures; assuring safe receipt, handling, transport,
storage, and disposal of radioactive materials; determinining that
personnel exposure is As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA); and
selects, evaluates, designs, and maintains (where applicable)
protective devices and confinement systems. The contractor takes action
on the basis of analysis of findings and develops and implements
educational programs in radiation safety for users of radioactive
material. Services require Twenty-Four hour-Seven Days a week coverage
which include 40 hrs/week on-site services, variable start times,
holiday, weekend and off-duty beeper/phone availability and emergency
on-site/call back services. Vendors with the capability to provide
Locum Tenens/RSO services are invited to submit in writing, sufficient
information which demonstrates the ability to fulfill this
requirement. Responses must contain descriptive literature in
sufficient detail to permit technical evaluation and include
educational background and experience data, evidence that
contractor/candidate is credentialed/licensed and meets all NRC
requirements, a point of contact(name and telephone #) and if
applicable, federal contract number and pricing. All responses received
will be fully considered. A request for a copy of the solicitation will
be deemed non-responsive as no solicitation document exists.
Information received shall be considered solely for the purpose of
determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. However, a
determination by the Government not to compete this requirement based
on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the
