E-MAIL: Gloria J. Coffey, gloria.coffey@msfc.nasa.gov. The purpose of this amendment is to clarify questions received as a result of this synopsis: Question 1: On item #1, do you prefer specimen couplings to be included with the quotation? They will be a necessary item for the complete unit, however, they were not mentioned in the specifications. Also, there was a 99,999.00 time meter specified. Is it acceptable to quote a 9,999.9 time meter? Answer 1: Specification states that pull rods rated for 20,000 lbs. @ temps between -250-700 deg F with English male threads. MSFC will provide the specimen grips. The vendor shall provide rods that attach to the creep sand that are made from material and sized such that they will funciton within the temperature range specified at the maximum load of the stand. The rods should terminate with english male threads that we will attach to our specimen grips. The thread size depends on what material the vendor selects to make the rods from. Question 2: On item #2, is there an oven required on this equipment as well as the equipment on line item #1? If so, are the specifications the same as those mentioned for line item #1? Also, may we quote a 20:1 ratio lever arm in place of the 16:1 ratio arm? It would be more cost effective to go this route. Again, are specimen couplings required on this test equipment? Answer 2: No oven is required for item # 2. The 16:1 ratio is not a hard requirement. Any ration that will give the 5000 lb. load in a reasonable sized frame is o.k. Question 3: There was no mention on either of the line items regarding extensometers or LVDT transducers. These will be required to provide a method to send an output into the computer system to measure strain. You will need two extensometers and two transducers to work with the computer system. If you will supply the extensometers and transducers, we will need to know which type you will use, so we may properly configure and quote the electronics for the computer system. Answer 3: The load transducers should be supplied with the system, but extensometers are not required, but should be optional to be purchased later. The Closing date of this Request for Quotation is not extended as a result of this amendment. All quotations are due by Close of Business on May 25, 1999. Posted 05/14/99 (D-SN331853). (0134)
