NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the polishing, cleaning, and packaging of 100mm P 1-0-0 float zone silicon wafers with the following quantities and thicknesses: Seventy five (75) 700 Micron; Seventy five (75) 650 Micron; Seventy five (75) 600 Micron; Seventy five (75) 550 Micron; One hundred twenty five (125) 500 Micron The float zone silicon wafers will be used as collector material for the GENESIS Discovery mission. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/JSC intends to purchase the service from MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. because they are the only known source capable of providing the necessary levels of both high purity and cleanliness; they can provide us with cleanliness certification for the cleaned and polished wafers. They are also willing to modify their production line to accommodate the special laser cutting process needed to fit the wafers into the collector arrays. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 15 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
