the Trade in Environmental Services and Technologies /Clean Technology
Initiative (CTI) Project, is soliciting proposals for a Management
Support Services contract with U.S. organizations who have a proven
track record in providing technical assistance in the areas of
implementing environmental management programs which emphasize private
voluntary initiatives as means to accelerate the use of clean climate
friendly technologies and practices to help mitigate greenhouse gas
(GHG) emissions from select industries in India. The CTI project, since
June 1997 has provided targeted technical assistance in the following
core industrial sectors in the Indian industry: automobiles, textiles,
paper and pulp, Iron and steel, and cement. CTI has worked with
business/industry associations to initiate pilot environment management
systems (EMS) per ISO 14000 guideline; introduce clean industry
standards such as benchmarking/rating program; and establish internet
based business to business information networks. The next phase of the
technical assistance contract will build on the experiences gained in
the industrial sectors so far; place emphasis on program outreach and
information networking, and financing of cleaner technology processes
and services through ICICI Limited, a premier financial institution in
India. The contractor, in this phase, will expand program demonstration
initiatives as achieved under the previous phase, by providing
technical assistance to CTI partners which includes ICICI, CTI
grantees, industry and industry/business associations, and USG agencies
that will engage in development of: (1) effective environmental
management and energy efficient systems; (2) improved production
process efficiency in the industry; and (3) improved product design
whose functioning contributes to GHG emission abatement. Detailed
