TACOM-ARDEC is conducting a market survey to identify potential sources
to manufacture PAP7993 single based granular propellant for use in the
XM231 MACS propelling charge increments for the 155mm Modular
Artillery Charge System(MACS). The XM231 charge is scheduled to be type
classified at the end of FY99. This effort will support the initial
production of XM231 charge scheduled in FY00. The 155MM MACS is a
two-increment charge system that will provide enhanced performance for
155MM artillery. It is intended to award a contract with one option as
follows: Basic Contract Two production lots for a total quantity of
about one million four hundred thousand (1,400,000) pounds. The lots
will be 7-perforated cylindrical granular propellant. The web size of
the propellant will be between the range of 0.018 to 0.025 inches. The
absolute density will be in the range 1.5-1.8g/cc. Option Two
production lots for a total quantity f between one million (1,000,000)
and two million (2,000,000) pounds withsame parameters described
above. Potential deliveries of the PAP7993 propellant are as follows:
Basic Contract FY00 1,400,000 pounds -- 150 days after award of
contract; Option -- FY01 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 pounds -- 150 days
after exercise of option. The contractor should have applicable
experience in efforts of similar production quantities: a large annual
production capacity of single based propellant and storage capacity.
Firms with experience in the areas cited above should provide via email
a summary of their company's capabilities including a description of
facilities, personnel and past experience to meet this requirement.
