Sought/Request for Information: Bechtel Nevada is seeking sources that
can provide a Demountable Intense Neutron Source Tube for Febetron 706
pulser. These tubes resemble the standard x-ray tubes for the Model 706
with the exception of internal modifications as specified in a
technical paper by Chang and Leeper "Intense 3 ns neutron source", Rev.
Sci. Instrum. 51(6), Jun. 1980 pp 715-720. The modifications permit the
tube to output a pulse of neutrons. These design modifications are: 1)
outer envelope must fit into and mate with a standard Febetron 706 2)
anode tip (6.4-mm diameter) must permit mounting of Contractor
supplied replaceable CD2 (deuteron source) 3) stainless steel cathode
(0.25-mm thick) with 1-cm diameter aperture is spaced 3 mm from CD2 4)
demountable stainless steel target (12.5-mm diameter, 0.38-mm thick)
to be coated with erbium tritide by Contractor is placed 18.0 mm from
the aperture cathode 5) tube is equipped with standard Quick Flange as
vacuum pump port 6) spare stainless steel anode tips and targets
Request all interested parties to submit product brochures, capability
statements or other descriptive literature, which provides sufficient
detail to enable preliminary functional evaluation. Information should
be faxed to the Attention of Emma Fox (702) 295-1702 or e-mail
information to foxeb@nv.doe.gov. Request all information be provided no
later than June 14, 1999. Posted 05/25/99 (W-SN335613). (0145) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0271 19990527\59-0023.SOL)
