Denver Service Center intends to solicit and negotiate with only one
source, Specialty Coach & Bus, Inc., under the authority of FAR
6.302-1, Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services
Will Satisfy Agency Requirements. The Island Explorer, a seasonal
public transportation system serving Acadia National Park and the
communities on Mount Desert Island, Hancock County, Main, will begin
service in 1999. The Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT)
solicited proposals, under open competition, for 8 -- 28 passenger
propane powered transit style buses with handicap lift. Two proposals
were received and a contract awarded to Specialty Coach & Bus, Inc.
Acadia National Park has agreed to purchase 9 additional, identical
buses for the Island Explorer thereby permitting continuous service
