Industrial Association (NDIA) will conduct the 15th Annual NDIA
Security Technology Symposium and Exhibition on June 14-17, 1999, at
the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel, Norfolk, Virginia, USA. The theme
of this Symposium is "The New Security Paradigm: Progress Beyond the
Planning Stage." Since Presidential Decision Directives 62 and 63 were
issued last May, the U. S. Federal Government has mounted an intensive
effort to develop plans and strategies to protect critical national
infrastructures and deal more broadly with the terrorist threat. An
integral part of these plans is information sharing with the private
sector. Federal agencies and organizations are now moving to implement
these plans. Looking toward FY2000, for the first time substantial
funding will be earmarked for critical infrastructure protection --
technologies, tools and approaches to protect, mitigate, respond to and
recover from both physical and cyber threats. On the international
front, cooperative R&D activities are under discussion among concerned
nations. Deliberations are underway on the FY2001 federal budget, with
the objective of increased funding for key needs. In the meantime,
state and local governments are grappling with how to cost-effectively
meet the security challenges of the "unseen threats" -- information
disruption and chemical and biological attacks. This NDIA symposium
will focus on the activities, including research and development,
government and industry have underway to meet the challenges of the new
security paradigm -- threats arising from advancing technologies that
impact public safety and the network of companies and organizations
that provide services necessary for quality of life. The symposium will
include speakers from all levels of government, the private sector and
international arena. A half-day of the proceedings will be set aside
for exhibits and technical presentations to highlight some of the
cutting edge technologies that will be instrumental in implementing the
new security paradigm. Posted 05/28/99 (W-SN337077). (0148) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0094 19990602\U-0001.SOL)
