Ahlf, peter.ahlf@hq.nasa.gov. The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration's (NASA's) Human Exploration and Development of Space
(HEDS) Enterprise solicits proposals for investigations to be carried
to the surface of Mars by the MSP 2003 Lander Mission. These
investigations will require instrumentation to be developed and placed
on a fixed lander platform in order to address scientific
investigations of the radiation environment; soil, dust, and
environmental interactions; and fundamental biology. Instruments will
also be solicited to demonstrate in-situ resource utilization
technologies. These investigations will be carried out in addition to
the primary Space Science Enterprise mission objectives for Mars sample
return. NASA also announces an opportunity to propose definition
studies for the mission opportunities in 2005. These opportunities
include lander investigations similar to the 2003 opportunity,
micromissions, and a dedicated HEDS lander mission. These definition
studies should address potential flight experiments for HEDS specific
Mars exploration goals. This solicitation is open to U.S. and foreign
proposers in all categories of governmental and private sector
organizations, agencies, and institutions. It will be open for the
period through August 10, 1999. Proposals may be submitted at any time
throughout the period. This solicitation will be available
electronically via the Internet at
http://peer1.idi.usra.edu/peer_review/nra/nra.html on June 18, 1999.
