The objective of the B-52 Avionics Midlife Improvement (AMI) modification is to preserve B-52 combat capability and provide growth capability for future integration efforts. This acquisition is for a 60-month Engineering Manufacturing and Development (EMD) effort, beginning in FY00, to upgrade the B-52 Offensive Avionics System (OAS). The EMD contract requirement includes integration of the replacement Avionics Control Unit (ACU), Inertial Navigation System (INS), and the Data Transfer Unit (DTU). In addition, B-52 Flight Management System (FMS) software and nine separate weapon Stores Management Overlay (SMO) software modules must be developed. A sole-source contract will be issued to the original equipment manufacturer, Boeing Military Programs -- Wichita Division, as they are the only responsible source with the experience and capability required to satisfy B-52 AMI EMD requirements. The approximate issue/response date will be 21 Jun 1999. Written procedure will be used for this solicitation. No telephone requests.
