The USDA Forest Service, Tongass National Forest intends to contract for professional structural engineering services on the Thorne Bay Ranger District. Work includes performing a detailed bridge inspection, structural load rating, seismic analysis, and design of seismic retrofit, bridge deck, and bridge rail replacement for the Sarkar Rapids bridge located on Prince of Wales Island approximately 70 highway miles north of Hollis, Alaska, which is accessible by ferry from Ketchikan, Alaska. The estimated start work date is late July 1999. The contract time will be 21 calendar days for field work plus an additional 60 calendar days to complete all work and deliver the final design drawings and specifications. A firm-fixed-price contract for professional architect-engineer services will be negotiated. Interested firms may request a Scope of Services document from the contracting office. Firms will be required to complete an SF-254 and SF-255 to be considered for this project. See Numbered Note 24. The estimated price range for this project is under $25,000.
