45 -- NOTICE OF INTENT TO NEGOTIATE A SOLE SOURCE SOL 69D-313-99 DUE 061499 POC Diane Brazale, Contracting Officer, (414) 902-5403 The Great Lakes Acquisition Center intends on negotiating a sole source contract with KC Mediwaste, Dallas TX for the purchase and installation of One complete Medical Waste Sterilization Treatment System for the VA Hospital, Hines Il. The system shall include but not limited to the Torbed Fluidized Bed Hot Air Treatment Chamber, Komar QR-224-30 or equivalent single step four shaft shredder, Cart Lifter/Dumper, holding vessels for input and discharge waste materials, HEPA Filtration System, structural supports, access scaffolding as required and appropriately sized air compressor and reservoir. The system must have the capacity to process 200-300 pounds of potentially infectious medical waste ("red bag" and sharps) per hour. Process must render that waste innocuous and unrecognizable and allow the sterilized waste to be placed into a compactor dumpster or directly into a landfill for terminal disposal. System must be able to operate efficiently with the existing steam pressure available at Bldg. 200, Somat Annex, or 40 psig. To the best of the Government's knowledge, KC Mediwaste Co., L.C. is the only source which can provide this dry heat system containing the Torbed Treatment Chamber.
