Sammon, hsammon@pica.army.mil. The US Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny
Arsenal, NJ intends to procure a comparative assessment of the
electronics and associated components used in smart munitions and
compare it to on-going research and development efforts in the industry
and academia. The contractor shall determine the trends of electronic
applications and its impact on electronics used in munitions. This
assessment and evaluation is aimed at Production Base Readiness Support
for conventional ammunition items to minimize costs and problems
throughout the munitions life cycle. The contractor shall provide
recommendations to ARDEC concerning manufacturing technology trends and
directions in R&D, packaging and alternative production approaches and
suggested programs, including any impact on manufacturing support
facilities where applicable. The contractor shall provide
recommendations for synergy of ARDEC programs with those of the
electronics industry. It shall also determine the economic impact based
on how the evolution of the electronics will bear on the procurement of
munition electronics. The period of per- formance is six months from
date of award. This is a sole source require- ment to Louisiana Center
