synopsis entitled Reroofing of Building N204 which was posted on May
19, 1999. You are notified that the following changes are made: The
following clarifications and answers to questions at the Pre-bid
Conference and Site Tour on June 3, 1999 are hereby made part of the
solicitation and the resultant contract. a) Question: How many existing
roofs are there on the building? Answer: There are two roofs present.
b) Question: How thick is the existing insulation? Answer: The existing
fiberglass insulation is approximately 2-1/2 to 3 inches thick. c)
Question: Is the lower canopy roof included in the re-roofing project?
Answer: Yes. d) Question: Does the new roofing system require tapered
insulation? Answer: Yes. Tapered fiberboard insulation shall be
install as specified on the upper roof only. The insulation on the
lower canopy roof shall consist of a _ inch of high density fiberboard
over 1 inch of polyisocyanurate as shown on the drawings. e) Question:
Detail #8 on sheet 204-9901-A3 shows an expansion joint cover at the
junction between the lower roof canopy and the adjacent stucco wall.
Can we install sheet metal counterflashing instead of the expansion
joint cover? Answer: Yes. However, the contractor shall submit drawings
detailing the installation of the proposed sheetmetal counterflashing.
The contractor shall also submit drawings for all counterflashing
corners, end pieces and transitions between roof edge and continuous
wall. Drawings shall be in accordance with Section 01300 "Submittals"
of the specifications and shall be approved by the Contracting Officer
prior to installation. f) Question: What is the height of the
building? Answer: The height of the building is approximately 35 feet.
g) Question: Is there any asbestos on the roof, ducting or piping?
Answer: There is no asbestos in the roofing plies/membrane, ducting or
piping. However there is asbestos in the mastic repairs found
throughout the roof. h) Question: What type of deck is present? Answer:
The existing wood deck is a 5/8 inch plywood tongue and groove glued
underlayment. i) Question: Are we required to glaze coat fiberglass
plies to protect against moisture prior to installation of capsheet?
Answer: If contractor does not wish to glaze uncapped fiberglass plies,
the contractor shall cover all exposed fiberglass plies with a tarp. j)
Question: Does the new roofing system require modified base flashing
materials? Answer: Yes. A granulated modified SBS sheet is specified
for base flashing applications. Refer to specifications for material
and installation requirements. k) Question: Do we have to remove all
rooftop equipment? Answer: The contractor shall remove all equipment
necessary to properly install the specified roof system. l) Question:
Is there a line item for deck repair? Answer: No m) Question: Can we
get a copy of the list of Contractors requesting Drawings and
Specifications? Answer: Yes, it will be posted in nest few days. n)
Question: How long can the rooftop equipment be kept inoperable?
Answer: 4 weeks. Requests for an outage extension shall be made in
writing to the Project Manager at least 10 days in advance of time
required. The due date for receipt of quotes is not extended Documents
