The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Aging (NIA), intends to negotiate with The Istituto di Ricerche sulle Talassemie ed Anemie Mediterranee (IRTAM), in Cagliari, Italy, a five year contract to determine means, ranges, and profiles for two phenotypes and epidemiological factors in groups recruited from the founder population of Sardinia; analyze two complex trait phenotypes to assess genetic factors; and, follow-up positive linkage and association studies for the asthma study currently being conducted by the proposed Contractor, testing the efficacy of linkage disequilibrium and gene-finding methods for proof of principle and providing control DNAs for the above stated goals. The appropriate statutory authority is 41 USC 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1(a)(2) and FAR 6.302-1(b)(1)(i). This is NOT a Request for Proposal.
