The Portland VA Medical Center (PVAMC) is looking to purchase the temporary services of a board-certified physician in either general internal medicine or family practice. The services of the physician will be required at the VA Primary Care Outpatient Clinic located at 2042 Williamson Court, Suite 100 in Bend, Oregon for a minimum of two months with an option to extend up to ten additional months on a monthly basis. The need to continue contract services will be contingent upon the VA's ability to recruit full time staff to run the Clinic. The physician will provide both primary and continuity care services. Staffing in the clinic will consist of the contract physician and possibly a VA nurse practitioner. The contract physician will report to the Portland VA Medical Center located at 3710 SW U.S. Veterans Hospital Road, Portland, Oregon on August 9, 1999, through August 13, 1999, for orientation. The physician will start providing services at the VA Primary Care Outpatient Clinic in Bend, Oregon on August 16 which is the opening of the Clinic. The contract physician must have an unrestricted and full licensure in a State and be board certified in general internal medicine or family practice. (Possible Exception: A contract physician having completed their residency program in internal medicine or family practice and board-eligible within 2 years of completing their residency-training program may be considered acceptable. Approval to the exception is at the sole discretion of the VA). The contract physician must have one to two years of recent primary care experience in a high flow outpatient setting. The term "recent" meaning within the past 12 to 18 months with emphasis on continuity practice. The contract physician must be capable of making high quality patient management decisions in their clinical practice possessing good skills in assessing problems and a discerning ability to correctly refer patients for focused specialty care, treatment, consultation or hospitalization. The contract physician mustbe certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and preferably Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Evaluation criteria are described in the solicitation. It is expected that the contract offer will be made during the week of July 19 with services to start as described above August 9. A commercial item request for quotation will be issued on or about June 15, 1999.
