is soliciting proposals from qualified small business organizations to
enter into a firm fixed price contract to clean and preserve two
historic bronze cannons and two historic cast iron cannons located in
San Francisco, CA. The cannons are all located in the marine
environment along the coast of the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific
Ocean. Each cannon has individual treatment requirements to get them to
a state where on-going maintenance will preserve them for the future.
The project will be approached in three phases (1) Examination Report
and Treatment Proposal, (2) Treatment, and (3) Treatment Report. The
following criteria, all of equal importance, shall be considered in
evaluation of contractors for award: (a) Documentation of graduate
degree or certificate from an accredited conservation program or
documented apprenticeship with a museum conservator; (b) Demonstrated
experience in conservation of works of art or historic objects in a
museum conservation setting; (c) Demonstrated experience in
conservation of public sculpture and/or historic cannons; (d)
Demonstrated experience in conservation of metal, especially bronze and
iron objects; (e) Demonstrated experience in conservation of metal
objects in a marine environment; (f) Demonstrated experience in
completion of object treatment proposals and object treatment reports;
(g) Demonstrated experience in preparing maintenance plans for metal
objects; and (h) Demonstrated experience in providing training for
non-technical staff in the preservation of metal objects. The National
Park Service welcomes the participation of small, minority, and women
