The U.S. Geological has a requirement to replace the existing raised flooring in the Photo Processing Laboratory at the EROS Data Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The project involves the removal and replacement of the existing raised flooring, (approx. 2700 sf), cleaning and coating of the subgrate, and the moving of some plumbing pipes and electrical conduit. The concrete floor (underneath existing raised floor system) is to be cleaned and prepard for application of a new chemically-resistant epoxy coating as specified prior to installation of a new raised floor system. Materials to be removed from floor may include spilled photo processing chemicals, dried residue of past chemical spills, and existing paint. Existing paint has deteriorated considerably and may not be present in all areas. Wherever paint is present, it shall be assumed to contain lead. There are pipes under the existing raised flooring system. Water pipes are scheduled to be replaced as part of this project. Process chemical pipes made of PVC are scheduled to remain in place. These pipes must be protected during removal of chemical residue and paint. The estimated cost range of this project is between $ 100,000 and $250,000.
