The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has a requirement for a control system upgrade of two 3,000 ton refrigeration units (RUs) and the variable speed pumping system (VSPS) in the Chilled Water and Steam Generation Plant, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The upgrade system is required to be compatible and communiate with the controls on the existing 4 RUs. The contractor is required to demolish the existing panels, purchase and install 2 Integrated Systems Network (ISN) control panels (which are proprietary items), replace the existing VSPS interface, extend the ISN local network to each affected panel, and install a computer workstation in the engineers office for monitoring the system.
