58 -- MARKET SURVEY FOR LIGHT WEIGHT STOWAGE CASE FOR THE JOINT STARS GROUND DATA TERMINAL DUE 071299 POC John Quinn, Electronics Engineer (732) 532-4497 or Michael Karakoglou (732) 427-5935; Charles Ade, Contract Specialist (732) 427-1334 WEB: http://abop.monmouth.army.mil, http://www.monmouth.army.mil. E-MAIL: ade@mail1.monmouth.army.mil, quinn@mail1.monmouth.army.mil. This Market Survey is to determine the capability of industry to provide a reduced weight stowage case for the antenna of the Joint STARS data link. The existing stowage case performs adequately but it is too heavy. The Army is considering the procurement of testing of candidate lightweight case, to verify that it meets requirements, and then procurement of approximately 118 of the lightweight cases. Companies capable of meeting this need are invited to respond with a recommended product description and recommendation on testing to verify that the requirements are met, with price and schedule estimates. BACKGROUND: The stowage case for antenna is the part of the Joint STARS Common Ground Station (CGS). The existing stowage case weighs 160 lbs. and its size is 46.5"L, 22.5"W, 19.5"H. It is composed of container made from aluminum with a shock and vibration isolator. We are considering a change to reduce the weight of stowage case, a goal is 100 lbs. Reduction or minimum weight that will meet the requirement. The antenna carried in the current stowage case weighs 120 lbs. The shape of antenna is cylindrical with a dome on the top of it and its size is 16.2 inches diameter 36 inches high. USAGE: The antenna is placed into the stowage case for frequent transport by Joint STARS CGS. The stowage case with an antenna inside may be carried on a Ton 2-wheel trailer or carried by the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). The movement is on primary roads 40 percent of the time, on secondary roads 40 percent of the time and on unimproved, cross country terrain 20 percent of the time. It is transported worldwide by air, rail, and ground without damage. STOWAGE CASE REQUIREMENT:Stowage case requirement is to protect the antenna during storage and transport on the Joint STARS CGS. The purpose of this announcement is to conduct market research in support of potential U.S. Army requirements and as such is not a request for proposals. Further technical description of the stowage case will be placed on the ArmyBusiness Opportunity Page (ABOP) Opportunity Page (BOP) for all interested parties. The U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command (CECOM) has established an Army Business Opportunities Page (BOP) web site to allow electronic transmittal of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Invitation for Bids (IFBs) from CECOM. All parties interested in doing business with CECOM are invited to access, operate, send and receive information from the Business Opportunity Page at (http://abop.monmouth.army.mil).
