This is NOT an invitation to bid (IFB) or a Request for Proposal (RFP). This is only a notice that the Department of the Navy (DoN) is planning the procurement of Naval Intranet (NI) Services that serve both Navy and Marine Corps end users. The Department of the Navy is planning to achieve a single Naval Intranet (NI) capability, that provides robust, cost effective computing and communications services for all Navy and Marine Corps organizations. The goal is to replace the service provided by numerous costly, independent local networks with a technologically superior coherent DoN-wide capability supporting over 450,000 seats. NI Services are expected to provide cohesive voice, video and data services to the desktop. DoN is interested in obtaining industries comments on the proposed approach for rapid introduction of this capability. All interested parties are invited to attend an industry brief, which will be held on 07 July 1999 beginning at 1000 in Little Hall of the Marine Corp Base, Quantico, Virginia. All attendees are reminded that the purpose of this industry brief is to facilitate the exchange of information with industry regarding the NI Services, and that the brief does not constitute an IFB or RFP, nor should the brief be considered a commitment by the DoN to ultimately procure NI Services.
