is soliciting proposals to produce a comprehensive administrative
history of Death Valley National Park. It will be written to
professional standards and will provide baseline data on the park's
conception and establishment in 1933 and management of the area to the
present. It will identify and discuss the persons, events, and
policies that led to the park's establishment and that have shaped its
subsequent development and management. It will address a number of
significant issues related to natural and cultural resources
management, Native American relations, concessions operations,
interpretation, mining, and the like. It will serve as a key management
tool by providing a context for contemporary and future decision-making
processes. Preparation of this document requires research and
collection of data; organization, synthesis, and interpretation of
information; and production of a narrative text with photographs, maps,
sketches, and other illustrations as appropriate. The Request for
Proposal will be available on or about 7-14-1999. A firm fixed price
