R -- TRANSLATION SERVICES SOL 06-9-7881 POC Linda Catterton (301)457-1840 The Bureau of the Census intends to issue a sole source contract to Comprehensive Language Center Inc. (CLCI), 4200 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA for translations of several documents from English to Spanish and eight Asian languages: Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Cambodian, Loatian and Hmong. The documents include: 17 two-page fact sheets (averaging 800 words), 1 special package, containing a cover letter (279 words), brochure (688 words), and 2 documents containing announcements (549 words and 1296 words). All translations will be submitted in electronic format. Typesetting, layout, 2 color negative film and 3 color print hard copies per language is required for the Asian-language translations. It is imperative that the translated material is consistent with that of the Questionnaires and the Language Guides that have already been translated. The Bureau of the Census feels that CLCI can meet the sensitive time constraints and the variations of languages necessary to complete this project.CLCI has provided translation and typesetting support for the public outreach activities of the 1990 Census and is supporting the translation services for the Language Guides for Census 2000. Their past performance and familiarity of Census 2000 Language Guides will assist them in reducing the learning curve and is critical to the timely completion of this project. Interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in response to this requirement no greater than 15 days from the published date of this announcement to the above address. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct future competitive procurements.
