COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 25,1999 PSA#2375BLAST MEDIA RECLAMATION AND DUST COLLECTION EQUIPMENT -- REQUEST FOR
TECHNICAL AND COST INFORMATION The St. Lawrence Seaway Development
Corporation (Corporation) plans to purchase portable blast media
reclamation and dust collection equipment. The Corporation is currently
proceeding with preliminary designs for the following building and is
requesting technical and cost information for budgetary purposes from
companies who manufacture and/or sell equipment that would perform the
functions stated below. Plans are to use this equipment during blast
cleaning and painting operations both in a building which will have an
area approximately 110 feet long x 40 feet wide x 24 feet high
dedicated to these operations and in navigation lock chambers on lock
gates during shutdown periods. The Corporation plans to utilize
recyclable steel shot/grit to remove paint, rust and mill scale from
steel items prior to repainting. No more than 3 blast nozzles will be
operated at any one time. Reclamation equipment should include a means
of collecting the used blast media for recycling. Dust collection
equipment shall be sized for use in the building and work areas in the
lock chamber will be set up to isolate smaller areas. When in use in
the building, the ambient conditions can be controlled however, when
the equipment is used down in the lock chamber, humidities will be very
high. Plans are to operate all of the equipment from electric power
sources available at the work sites, if sufficient power is available.
Information provided shall define power requirements and what
alternatives are available if sufficient power is not available.
Equipment furnished must operate such that the work sites conform with
applicable OSHA and EPA regulations for blast cleaning and painting
operations. Paint being removed will contain lead. Alternative methods
for accomplishing the aforementioned objectives will be considered.
