Jeffrey S. Fleming, jfleming@pica.army.mil. The Design and
Manufacturing Institute (DMI) shall assess production base applications
of the Automated Concurrent Engineering Software (ACES), a knowledge
base design tool, for electronics, especially how this may be applied
to augment production and replenishment requirements in the Production
Base. This study will assess the design of electronic systems from the
viewpoints of production consideration, performance issues (structural,
thermal), materials factors, electromagnetic shielding, reliability and
costing. In this regard, knowledge of individual aspects of design and
manufacturing will be assessed and inter-dependencies between various
domains will be evaluated. The advantages of utilizing the concurrent
approach and its impact on industry will be described. Also knowledge
hierarchy flow-charts and domain specific methodology charts are
required. The period of performance for this Aquisition is 12 months.
