Agent, (770) 488-2639 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) intends to negotiate with and award a contract to the American
Medical Association, Department of Preventive Medicine, Chicago,
Illinois. The award will be made on a sole source basis for
professional services for the vendor to produce a physician education
component of the Food Safety Initiative (FSI) that will increase
awareness of the issues of foodborne illness among physicians in the
U.S. An integral part of the overall food safety initiative is
providing food safety education to a variety of audiences: consumers
(the general public and specific groups at risk for foodborne illness);
public-health professionals and physicians; retail food-service, and
institutional food preparers; veterinarians, animal and other food
producers, and food-transportation workers. This challenge is to create
educational messages that address the risks relevant to each audience
throughout the food chan. Research and risk assessment are important
elements identifying these risks and devising appropriate messages. The
initiative also seeks to further collaboration between public and
private organizations and to improve coordination within the government
as we work toward our common goal of improving the safety of the
nations food supply. This requirement falls under SIC code 8733. Other
that full and open competition is authorized pursuant to 41 U.S.C.
253(c)(1),FAR 6.302-1. The minimum qualifications of vendor include,
but are not limited to the following: Have a Ph.D. in the academic
field relating to veterinary medicine or health sciences, and have
access to relevant materials, such as bibliographic sources and a
university library with extensive sources in food safety. Qualified
vendors have 15 days from date of this synopsis to submit a capability
statement delineating their ability to provide these services. Such
qualifications will be used solely for the purpose of determinating
whether or not to conduct this procurement on a full and open
