A -- COMPREHENSIVE PARADIGM FOR THE MULTIGENERATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF A DRINKING WATER DISINFECTION BYPRODUCT SOL RTD-99-001 DUE 082099 POC Margaret Mann (919)541-4896 E-MAIL: MULTIGEN PARADIGM RTD-99-001, mann.margaret@epamail.epa.gov. NHEERL/RTD employs such tools as biologically based dose-response models of toxicity to assess the developmental and reproductive health risks associated with low-level, chronic exposure to environmental agents. Such risk assessments require toxicological testing that extends beyond the endpoints of routine multigenerational studies. Hence, we are seeking innovative collaborative research projects that incorporate toxicokinetic evaluations; route-to-route extrapolation; and measures of toxicant effects on endocrine regulation, the developing reproductive system, and fertility (via structural and functional assessments of male and female reproductive endpoints). Preference will be given to proposals investigating multigenerational exposure of environmentally relevant brominated haloacetic acids that incorporate novel, but sound, approaches for assessing reproductive effects. Pre-proposals should be 5 to 10 pages in length and describe the proposed model system (including prior application of the model),proposed endpoints, cost estimates, and staff qualifications. Following review of pre-proposals, selected applicants will be asked to submit final proposals, which must be cleared through appropriate institutional review boards. It is anticipated that funding will be $800,000 (including indirect costs) for a project period not to exceed 3 years. DEADLINE for receipt of pre-proposals is August 20, 1999. For additional information regarding evaluation criteria or to submit proposals contact: Marg Mann at (919) 541-4896; FAX: (919) 541-2581 or MAIL: MultiGen Paradigm, c/o Marg Mann, US EPA/NHEERL/NARMS, MD-85, Research Triangle Park,NC 27711. This solicitation is subject to Parts 30 and 40 of Title 40, Chapter 1, Subchapter B of the Code of Federal Regulations, which prohibit profit-making organizations from applying. EPA reserves the right not to make any awards from this solicitation. Posted 06/28/99 (W-SN347748). (0179)
