The Dust Monitor will consist of an Omni-Directional sampling head. A sample inlet tube connected to a volume controlled pump and a PTFE filter where the entire sample is collected for gravimetric and/or chemical analysis. The sample passes thru an optical chamber containing a laser diode, lenses, and sheath air to keep the chamber clean. When particles pass this beam, they scatter light. These signals are collected by a photo diode detector and classifed by a multi-channel pulse height analyzer for size classification. The resulting data can be presented as particle counts in different size or mass ranges or it can be formatted to inhalable, thoracic, and respirable (alveolic) convention in accorance to ISO 7708 and EN 481 as mass in MG/M3.
