pfender_j@crane.navy.mil. Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center
(NAVSURFWARCENDIV Crane) is conducting a Market Research to determine
the availability of all applicable non-developmental, compact, small
arms fire control systems with potential to enhance crew-served weapon
effectiveness when using programmable ammunition. Systems will be
required to indicate ranges to targets with an accuracy and resolution
of one meter along the line of sight of the system and allow
user-input windage correction. The fire control system must also
incorporate a means of providing super elevation of a gun system such
as a 40 mm grenade launcher. The programmable ammunition currently
being developed under a separate effort uses a coded electronic signal,
conveyed to the ammunition inductively, to assure that the ammunition
detonates at the prescribed range. Any candidate fire control system
must be capable of supplying the coded information to the ammunition
after determining the range to the target. Minimum effective range of
the range finding sub-system should be 4,000 meters. The system needs
to be capable of acquiring vehicular targets under all lighting
conditions to this range. Candidate systems may be discrete devices or
integrated in configuration, be light in weight, and rugged enough to
withstand shock and vibration associated with vehicular travel over
rough terrain. Interested parties should submit technical information
regarding their system capabilities, technical approach, or conceptual
approach to NAVSURFWARCENDIV Crane, who will contact all parties
submitting technical descriptions packages. Any proprietary information
included in the packages must be clearly marked as such. Some parties
may be requested to permit the government to conduct field and
laboratory assessments. The field and laboratory assessments would be
conducted for approximately one month each at NAVSURFWARCENDIV Crane,
laboratories and at a CONUS field test location to be determined. These
evaluation assessments will be conducted with systems loaned to the
government at no charge and will not commit the government to any
financial obligations. The closing date of this request is 12 August
1999. The submission of this information is not to be construed as a
commitment by the government to pay for the information received. No
solicitation document exists. Submit information to Mr. John Pfender,
