COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 15,1999 PSA#2388

COMMON SIMULATION ARCHITECTURE (CSA) The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (MRDEC) will brief to industry a system simulation architecture intended to support a broad range of missile simulation applications. The meeting will be held on 12 August 1999 at the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The unclassified briefing will be limited to U.S. businesses only i.e., no foreign nationals. Non-participation in this briefing does not preclude involvement in any future Army acquisition program. The focus of the briefing is to articulate to industry the goals of a Common Simulation Framework (CSF) and obtain feedback from the participants. The CSF is intended to support the Army's goals for Simulation Based Acquisition (SBA) by providing simulation architecture to conduct systems design and analysis throughout the program life cycle. It is also anticipated that the CSF may be used by future MRDEC customers as part of their SBA strategy to supplement the proposal evaluation process. Information and documentation presented at the briefing will be made available to interested parties in a reading room to be designated at a later date. Simulations which may benefit from the CSF include all digital 6-DOF, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) and man-in-the-loop Virtual Prototype Simulators (VPS). The CSF is an Object Oriented simulation development environment written in C++. It will support either event-based or process-based simulation designs. HLA object module templates will be constructed to demonstrate HLA conformance for key missile systems components. The CSF is composed of extensible, reusable, and portable library frameworks. The CSF will support the integration of legacy Models and Simulations (M&S) through conformance to the CSF interface specification. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) will support the visual assembly of component models and provide the capability to set and store object properties and relationships. The GUI also provides for simulation executive services, data storage and display. If you wish to attend the briefing, send a written request along with a return mailing label or email address by 23 July 1999 to Commander, U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, ATTN: AMSAM-RD-SS-SD, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898-5243. Upon approval of the visit request, a registration package will be forwarded. Each company attending the briefing will be limited to a maximum of three representatives. For further information contact Mr. Michael A. Schrenk,(256) 876-8638, or Mr. William R. Phillips, (256) 876-7231, at the Army Aviation and Missile Command. Posted 07/13/99 (W-SN353337).
