S -- The Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Wackenhut Services, Camp Springs, MD, under their current contracts to provide security guard services. The extension will be for a 12-month period, beginning October 1, 1999, plus two additional 6-month periods, if needed. The services are currently being provided under Contract #50-DKNA-5-00061 for NOAA's Silver Spring Metro Center (SSMC) (Buildings 2, 3, and 4) on East-West Highway, Silver Spring, MD and #50-DKNA-8-90014 for NOAA's facilities at the World Weather Building on Old Branch Avenue, Camp Springs, MD. These extensions will provide a bridge between the current NOAA contracts and a full and open competitive action to be conducted by the Department of Commerce for a nation-wide security guard services contract for all its agencies anticipated for award by October 1, 2000.
