seeking vendors that can provide Remote LAN Access capability and
control. The product being sought must provide a remote dial-in
solution which maintains SSA data security and also provides user
certification. The product must be Microsoft NT compatible and be
optimally operational within SSA's existing bridged token ring
infrastructure. It is the intention of SSA to evaluate all products
prior to acquisition for pilot implementation. The solution must
provide the following mandatory capabilities: Encryption Modems; V.90
technology to assure 56k bps connect rate in clear text operation; Type
II PCcard modem that provides user friendly Front-end authentication;
Self-contained 3DES encryption to assure data security; Public Key
Cryptography, including X.509 v3 Digital Certificates; Cellular
Encryption capable; and International Telco operation capability; Host
Scalable rack mountable Host-based for central management capability;
Dial-in operation; FIPS PUB 140-1 Level 2 compliant; Token ring
network connectivity; Storage of concurrent user IDs for security
control, with no less than 8-user port connectivity ; ANSI X9.17
compliant; PPP-TCP/IP- IPX compliant; RS-232 configuration ports and
serial speed for hardware; 80-bit skipjack algorithm for device to
device communication; HDD Media encryption; FCC Part 15 & 68 Approved,
as well as Underwriter Laboratory, CSA and EC approved products;
GUI-Based Security Configuration, including Challenge Response
Authentication, Access Retry Limits, and Individual User
Accountability; Certificate/authentication audit logging functions;
Compatible with "Radius"; Y2k compliance of all proposed equipment; and
SNA/3270 mainframe session through a Token Ring architecture. All
interested vendors should provide detailed information, including
product identification and product literature. All documentation must
