A -- BONE SHAPED-SHORT FIBER SOL CIT-IP:99-53 POC David J. Salazar, Civilian & Industrial Partnership Office, MS C334. PHONE:(505) 665-6697, FAX: (505) 665-0154, E-MAIL: davidj@lanl.gov E-MAIL: davidj@lanl.gov, davidj@lanl.gov. The University of California, which operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of Energy, solicits expressions of interest in obtaining non-exclusive LANL license rights to commercialize, manufacture and market the Bone Shaped-Short Fiber hereinafter referred to as "Technology". The Technology is a patent pending materials design for increasing overall toughness and strength in various composite materials. The special fibers shaped like a cartoon dog bone anchor into the matrix of materials such as concrete and other composite materials at each end because of their shape but bond weakly with the matrix along their length. This allows the fibers to help carry the load. This fiber design can be particularly important for high strength applications where material cracking can be a problem. Applications include strengthening of concrete structural elements, concrete/composite repair and patching uses, high strength composite fabrication for rugged environments. The Technology is patent pending in the US Patent and Trademark Office. Interested organizations must demonstrate prior professional experience in the fields of materials science, concrete and/or composite material products manufacturing. Evidence of related inventions and/or publications must be provided. Any organization interested in licensing the above mentioned Technology must respond with a statement of intent describing the organization's technical expertise, manufacturing and marketing capabilities, financial resources (e.g., annual report or corporate resume) and commercial motivation. Upon receipt of a licensee applicant statement, LANL may determine whether applicant(s) will be selected for license negotiations. A business or product commercialization plan may be required prior to licensee(s) selection and negotiation. For consideration, companies must respond as required and stated above within 30 days from the date that this advertisement first appears in the Commerce Business Daily. For questions or clarifications contact David J. Salazar, Licensing Executive, Los Alamos National Laboratory, (505) 665-6697 or email davidj@lanl.gov. Posted 07/14/99 (W-SN353804). (0195)
