(USGS) intends to issue a solicitation for the Phase II Geographic
Names Information System (GNIS) research effort for the southern
portion of Texas. The southern portion of Texas is defined as the
entire state from latitude N310000 (31 degrees latitude North) South to
the Mexican border. This effort shall include extensive and often
complex tononymic research from primary sources and secondary materials
including maps, texts, and charts. The expected performance period is
48 months. Offerors must demonstrate expertise in toponymic research
and cartographic application of geographic names. Of paramount
importance is a demonstrated access to primary and local sources for
compilation of information. Cost sharing is encouraged. All responsible
sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agency.
