71 -- SYSTEMS FURNITURE SOL DP2/0219Z/99 DUE 081199 POC Jennifer LaGrange 202 231 8462 The Virginia Contracting Activity, on behalf of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), intends to solicit and award a contract on a sole source basis to the American Seating Company (AMSECO)for systems furniture manufactured by AMSECO. The Government's minimum technical needs are as follows: (1) Availability: Shipment of selected items within six weeks or less. (2) Connectivity: (a) Panel connection must be made to existing panels without modification to include hardware for straight, 45 and 90 degree, tee and x connection as well as high-low connections for panels of different heights. (b) Hardware must be strong enough to support new/existing panel runs i.e. bolt together. (c) Electrical components must interconnect to the six and eight wire mode currently in use. Raceways, cables, outlets, and pigtails must connect to the existing system. (d) Panel frames must have space provided to enclose all electrical cables and components. (e) Electrical component system must be adaptable for up to three separate circuits on one hard wire pigtail. (f) Components i.e., overhead cabinets, half shelves and cantilever arms used for work surfaces should hang from the existing frames without modifications. (g) Penboards, tackboards and other paper organizers must also hang from existing panel frames without modification. (h)Inserts must be removable for cleaning, exchange, recovering without having to remove the panel from its installed location. Special installations require the complete removal of the insert on one side of the panel. This is required due to accessibility and space constraints. (3) Inter-operability: (a) Panels must be of uniform size to include height, width, and thickness. Current product has been standardized to the following: Height = 32", 42", 63", and 80"; Width = 18", 24", 30", 36", 42", and 48"; and Thickness = 2 1/8". (b)Color has been standardized to a light gray cloth and light neutral trim. Other colors must be available for "Special Projects." (c)Components must hang on existing panel frames without modification and should be adjustable in height of 1" increments. (d)Door frames and assemblies must be 42" wide. (e) Panel trim should include parts to completely enclose all electrical components to meet fire safety regulations. (f) Panel height must be adjustable for up to 1 1/2" with the use of adjustable legs. (4) General Suitability: Selected product must be interfaced with the existing product to include no noticeable differences in style, color, accessories, installation capabilities, part identification, and reusability. Other sources capable of satisfying this requirement are invited to submit clear and convincing data substantiating their capability to satisfy this requirement. A determination by the Virginia Contracting Activity not to compete this proposed procurement on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this synopsis is solely within the discretion of the Virginia Contracting Activity.
