253(c)(1), FAR 6.302-1 the National Institutes of Health (NIH),
Bethesda, Maryland intends to negotiate a contract with GENETIX
LIMITED, 63-69 Somerford Road Christ Church, Dorset BH23 3QA, United
Kingdom for a Complete High-Resolution Picking and Gridding Q-BOT
System. The intended procurement will classified under SIC 3826,
Laboratory Analytical Instruments with a size standard of 500
employees. The system shall consist of (1) an ethanol bath, brusher
sterilizer, air dryer, automated lid removal, light table and
microplate holders; (2) shall be used for several applications,
including picking and gridding colonies, re-gridding samples, arraying
samples on nylon filters and glass slides; (3) shall be fast and allow
discrimination of colonies on the basis of color, size and morphology;
(4) the pneumatic picking head shall allow picking speeds in excess of
3500 colonies per hour; (5) shall permit the user to replicate plates
(96 wells to 96 or 384 wells, 384 wells to 96 or 384 wells); (6) the
gridding system shall allow the creation of high density arrays of
bacteria on nylon filters; (7) the microarraying system shall allow the
user to array plasmid DNA on glass slides, which shall permit the
creation of expression arrays; (8) shall permit the user to input
positive clone positions from user defined database and to move these
clones to other places; (9) shall utilize PC format Windows 95 based
software; and (10) shall provide training for laboratory personnel. Any
response must be received in writing within fifteen (15) calendar days
from the published date of this notice. Information furnished should
include enough material to allow the Agency to perform a proper
evaluation. Concerns that respond to this synopsis shall furnish
concise responses directed specifically to the requirements mentioned
above and are invited to submit capability statements in an Original
Plus Two (2) copies no later than thirty (30) calendar days from the
date of this announcement. Source demonstrating the capability to
accomplish the above shall supply pertinent information in sufficient
detail to demonstrate their ability to perform. Written responses shall
include complete description of the services to be provided, containing
sufficient technical information to permit agency analysis to establish
a bona fide capability to meet the stated requirements as listed above.
